An insight on how to mix the Planting Soil? I dump layers on a large tarp and pull one edge over to the other side, rolling the ingredients back and forth in several directions til I'm satisfied with the blend.

Thanks Steve for the great article & terrific tips! I'm in S Florida & can no longer put my plants in the ground like I used up north since the slugs, snails & lizards seem to feast upon the tender young plants. I started using containers inside a fully screened in area and the tomato & pepper plants are doing ok but have been battling loads of white fly. My basil has also developed black spot fungus, it seems to be a constant struggle.

My favorite childhood memory is from one summer at the lake. My family was staying at our cottage and one day, my father, who liked to wander in the woods, came back so exited. Everyone else was too busy doing their own thing, but me, as in character, was simply splashing my feet in the lake - sitting on the dock. I followed my dad, and he brought me to a place that was formerly swamp. Large trees, but no underbrush or plants--- simply a padded carpet of moss under the tree canopy. It was so beautiful, I can still see it to this day. I tried to find the moss room years after as an adult, but it wasn't there. It must have been a result of the climate conditions for that year, I'll never forget it though- it still exists vividly in my memories.

Well, eclecticedwardian, "cheesy" and "populist" or not, my Buddha or Ho-Tei makes me happy.

As far as the general article itself, once I read the article I was really glad I recently elevated another Buddha I have up on several stone pavers.
