The Sky is the Limit Design Scott, don't you think you are getting a bit caught up in the term 'small'? It's a subjective term, and honestly, most of the kitchens, even a so-called small one, in North America are most likely larger than what we really need to create a healthy meal.

julie77777 ddelora and Lyn T -- I am with you.......I cannot imagine having to clean grout on my kitchen walls near my stove and my sink! I am starting some remodeling and can't deide what to do .... all these modern backsplashes are lovely to look at, but wow..... I currently have two coats of a very good paint behind my stove and it cleans up great. I have decided to definitely go with the short (3"?) backsplash that normally is attached to the countertop; absolutely cannot imagine NOT having that right behind my sink. Then above that, not sure yet... Low budget for backsplash --
