I use an old trick of my grandma's for spring cleans,, before you start the job sprinkle dried lavender flowers and stems all over the carpet,, as you work they get crushed and sent the carpet beautifully, with a calming aroma, just hoover them up at the end,,,and not a chemical in sight! ;-)

I would love to have a beautiful chandelier or shaded ceiling fixture hanging in the bedroom but our upstairs master bedroom gets warm and we need an overhead fan. Do you have any suggestions for an attractive fan and light fixture combo that doesn't distract too much from the dreamy ambiance of the room. The one we have now is the same color as the ceiling but it has a really outdated 1990's light fixture that I dislike. Any ideas?

I have a side yard leading to our above ground pool that's slightly sloped, Iv'e always wanted at least a path, but now, I think I would also like a horseshoe pit, or washer lane, it would be so much fun:-)

@ sbhavasu --- Trex is a composite decking, or pvc. Your marina likely installed either uncapped composite Trex or pvc Trex, both will fade. Newer options exist in composite decking which has an exterior layer called "capping" which has a color pattern and prevents staining/fading. The brand I prefer to Trex is Fiberon. Check out http://www.fiberondecking.com/ their Horizon is capped on all 4 sizes and has a 25 YR STAIN/FADE WARRANTY. They have an Ipe lookin in the Horizon line which uses 6 pigments in the capping to create a very realistic look. They also have various product options for all budgets.

Those of us who are asthmatic cannot be around a wood burning or charcoal burning BBQ...can't breathe.
Even gas ones are tough but better.
When neighbors turn on the grill, I go inside and close the windows and doors till they are finished.
Some places with bad smog will not allow wood burning of any kind.
As someone else mentioned, these gorgeous BBQ's are for the rich or people who are outside most of the year. Do think of clean up and replacement of appliances as time goes on. Free standing BBQ is much easier to replace than one set in a beautiful brick surround, Build surround so you can replace BBQ if necessary.

The No-Threshold Shower: Accessibility With Style

The California Plumbing Code (Section 411.6) states that you need 2" from the threshold or dam to the top of the drain. Max. slope is 1/2" per foot so how do you make any shower with less than 4' in the direction of slope comply with the code and have a zero threshold... unless of course you completely comply with T-24 accessibility standards and in that case the shower stall is a lot bigger?

I'm unfamiliar with the CA code as I'm not licensed in CA. Probably best if you ask a CA licensed professional that question. If you do, please post the answer as I'd really like to know how that would work.

tompaul: liked what you wrote totally! And your are right about the grout issue; people are needing to hear these things like you wrote...best to you and luck to projects!

ajeskin: why would mold grown any more quickly in these showers than others, often closed in, old ones? I think this many people having success is a great testimony for them, and solutions for not creating a moldy, icky shower!

You can see I used a tiny 3/16" square notched trowel and I mixed my thin set (Laticrete 254) loose. I trowel both the back of the niche and the back of the niche backer board. It the same direction. Then I installed the cement board like it was a tile.

The thin-set is of such quality it traps right away and no fasteners are needed.

Next step is the banding of the seams and corners, followed by the waterproofing process for the shower and niche. The shower base is a custom stone one from Indonessia - this is a fine project and more of the build is being showcased art my blog page no-curb.com
