@onthecoast1 My friend's daughter just married and she visited for the wedding. She said when she walked in the house it was as if everything in the dressers and closets had launched and landed all over the house. "It's as if the dressers were simply taking up room from my daughter being able to look at everything she owns all at once."

I need to confess. When my hubby was out golfing last Sunday I purged a big pile of books and a garbage bag of clothes and hid it all in the trunk of my car. I figure I saved him from doing it, agonizing over what to keep and us arguing for 30 minutes.

Can anyone tell me how to find a pocket door restoration company (we live in Los Angeles, but even general info on the type of pro to look for would be helpful). Our 1949 apartment has three non-functioning pocket doors that the landlord can't find wheels for—new ones don't fit and all the "antique hardware" stores only have wheels from the early 1900s through the '20s. We'd love to hire a pro to get them working again.

my2scents Be careful what you wish for. These forums are only good because they are frequented by professionals. And why would professionals spend time on them if they aren't allowed to pitch their goods and services? In addition to the great information we get from these pros, I learn about a lot of great products. Don't mind that at all!

I would recommend everything except for the wool blanket. I had a similar blanket that I loved until I attended an outdoor event at an amphitheater where the lawn was unbeknownst to me covered in stickers. My blanket got so covered in stickers I was unable to remove them all even with a sticky roller meant to remove stickers from pets. I ended up having to throw it away. I replaced it with a much less expensive nylon blanket and carrier that stickers can't cling to, is wipeable and machine washable.

Love your zen treehouse idea but usually people "forget" to go out and enjoy it since they think of so many things they "must do" at home. When you leave home even to go camping, you shut all the worries out of your mind, and relax especially if you leave the cell phone at home with the computer.

I've taken a new position with my company with better perks, reimbursements, and time that I schedule myself vs being chained to a site each and every day so I feel thankful for the first time in my career in having a new fresh perspective. I've been using my weekends for mini staycations shorting my Fridays and gardening, relaxing, and car cruising with my husband. I have a beautiful yard with a variety of gardens so to be outside enjoying the summer without being so tired and beat up from a ridiculous week is no longer eating away at my peaceful time at home. My time is mine again, it's the closest thing to early retirement I've experienced so far and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

I occasionally find small patches of Smooth Aster growing along railroad tracks here in western N.Y. (perhaps the seeds were carried by muddy trains?) Its interesting to see them growing side by side with the native New England & New York Asters.

pilbarapink: I'm having trouble visualizing the carpet, but I keep thinking Spanish or Mexican floor tile.... there is a lot you can do with blues, greens, yellows, and even light sandy taupes. I had a wall that terra cotta color at one time and absolutely loved it. I used a lot of light taupe and then splashes of the other colors I mentioned. Blacks, greys, and browns would work equally well.

I am the painter in our family. I love to refresh the paint every few years, so I am not at all afraid to pull the furniture out away from the wall and have at it. That said, I think when one is moving into a new home, it is a good idea to pick a neutral that will not clash with your stuff and get it up. Later, the rooms can be retouched, accent walls can be painted, or the whole thing can be redone. It is not always realistic to wait until you are in. We are building, so the paint must be on the walls prior to moving in. Since I am buying new furniture, that is a little intimidating. In fact, we can't even lay the floors until I paint! I am sure I will stick with warm neutrals and white trim and then update later as tastes and time permit.
