All footings should be poured on terra firma (undisturbed soil) regardless of region unless it is engineered fill. Forma - drain pretty standard here. Good stuff. On the other hand some things are pretty regional - we use directional boring here a lot but I wouldn't try it most places in Missouri or Arkansas.

I am so glad I came across this post and terrified at the same time. I recently noticed ants entering under my asbestos shingles, some have appeared in my house. I had spray foam installed in my house, crawl space too after Hurricane Sandy. I am so worried that I will have a lot of costly repairs ahead of me because of this foam insulation. The foam insulation cost a pretty penny and now may cost me more if I have an infestation of carpenter ants. Thanks for the information that everyone posted. I'm crossing my fingers. Oh, btw, my crawl space is about 4 ft. from dirt ground, spray foam installed in between floor joists & perimeter of house, not near ground soil at all. Going to check on moisture areas under the house now.

Maybe it's just me but I need a rail where I don't feel I'm gonna fall off! I like the idea of these transparent ones but too many are too scary!

We have lots of wild geraniums along the edges of our woods in the NC mountains, but they are short-lived. For the garden I love the geranium Rozanne that blooms all summer long until frost.
