Here’s a real-life design solution for you! Removal of the old control panel when we changed alarm systems last summer left a hole in our kitchen wall. Executing a perfect patch on such a focal point on the way to and from the dining room would be expensive and problematic, so we simply relocated one of my photos, a forest view printed 16 by 20 on canvas, from another room. It’s abstract enough that it doesn’t demand detailed attention as one passes close by, and serves the same function as the wall color – bringing a feeling of the garden, just outside the kitchen windows, inside.

Certification from NCQLP (LC) for professional lighting designers is valid in both residential and commercial projects. For LEED projects, this certification will provide 1 point for a lighting designer to be on the design team. American Lighting Association certification (CLC) is for residential projects only. IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) membership and leadership in IES committees is a key indication of the professional level and quality of a lighting designer.

Just like a driver's license is a sign of being a good driver and being a member in AIA means you're a good architect. Not exactly but it is neat to have all those initials after your name.

Dig your holes before you even buy your trees, shrubs, and plants. That way, you can have the fun of planting them when you get them home and the work is divided out! If you wet the ground before you dig, it is much easier.
