Traditional Dining Room
board to fit that space?...love it!
Currently I have a small separate kitchen and living room space. How do I renovate
renovate this space to equal one big open concept kitchen living area? Where do I start?
Perhaps we could use our desk space differently? I big armoire-size built-in on the right (e.g. liguor cabinet? Office supplies?) Then desk on the left facing the family room. No corner piece.
I like the idea of the desk space remaining counter height and in a different finish than rest of cabinets in kitchen to define the space.
I still like the idea of using cabinets and a counter top to make a desk type area
9. Desk. A counter and place to sit turns a command center into a place to get real work done. This is a great use of space in this dining nook area. The cabinetry gives contrast to the command center.

smaller items. Don’t just assume there are only a few standard clothes line styles out there. Do your research! I like how the owners have also used the space below as a gardening station. I bet when this clothes line is retracted against the wall you would hardly notice it.

Drying rack, use of space above machines
Good use of space on left
use of counter space over w/d
This design nicely uses the space above the machines for a drying rod set at about 76 inches (193 centimeters) high. A tilt-out frame with more rods provides a drying rack for smaller items. Some newer washers and dryers stand taller than a conventional 36-inch-high countertop, which can work to your

love that the drying racks won't take up floor space
Double upIf you are lucky enough to have lots of space, then go all out. Drying racks are great side by side, but can also work with one placed above the other.
Fit wall-mounted racksFold-down drying racks are a much more efficient use of space than floor- standing ones. Fit one above the sink so

Modern Kitchen
Like the look of the tiled wall - what tile did you use and size. Thanks!
Good use of small space. Built in table
Use of wood table, great with the white cabinetry
Simple design, well rationalized. Space for persons to sit to engage with the cook or have an informal bite/cup of whatever. Also like shelves.
If space is tight, use a cozy corner for a counter-height table. This kitchen is too narrow for an island, but a unique kitchen table is "attached" to the counters in a space between the kitchen and living areas. It's a very efficient use of space and perfect as a party gathering spot or for the Sunday
Here stainless steel is an accent finish, used in subtle ways rather than covering all of the appliances.

Kiel's woodworking talents are in full effect in the kitchen. No cabinets. Free space to grab plates
Maybe we could use our old sink again even if we trashed the metal cabinets underneath?
I love having the pots above the sink! "Instead of installing prefabricated cabinets in the newly rebuilt space, Kiel created custom shelves. “It didn’t make sense to put in the same fiberboard cabinetry that was there before,” he says. The cabinets were left

Detail at Living Room and Loft Hall
use of bridge and double height space
adding space with loft for books
with loft space for library above, storage around windows
maybe some empty space/shelving to place larger toys like a dolly house or her kitchen
lofts work most efficiently when one thinks vertically. A second-story ledge makes use of the tall ceilings by adding a small open library up top. Below, the floor drawers flanking the room make the most use of space.
