uninvited tip: native soil is great IF its great. Horse manure can be full of weed seeds and very "hot" (look it up). Some places don't freeze hard enough to heave the ground (obviously not an issue in Chi-town). Homemade compost is often full of seeds, too. I wouldn't be afraid to bring in quality 3-way

country garden setting on a farm. I hope to reduce my bending while tending plants. I am sure they will require extra water and could get hot in the south. But for my zone 3 area, if they warm early that's good for me. These are called stock tanks and can be purchased online and at farm stores.
do a "garden Lasagna" set up, you won't even have to drill holes, just start with twigs and small branches in bottom, followed by smashed up pop cans, then paper, and finally dirt. Google this technique for more info & good luck! I plan to do raised gardens this year too due to a disability
