Outdoor Entertaining - Poolside
A low wall and ipe deck define the space under this Eichler's wide roof overhang. Horsetail growing in planters from Restoration Hardware and the low wall mitigate the dominance of the swimming pool. Photo by Lisa Parramore.
What kind of plants are those?
I also live in the Bay Area and I love the idea of modern floor vase w the tall straight plants for height. Looks very clean. Are they easy to maintain?
It's ipe wood, and the low wall is stucco'd concrete.
Equisetum hyemale or horsetail are early to grow in containers but they need regular to ample water and do best in full sun. The plant will fill the entire container within 1-2years.

Hi love the design you guys did! Are these faux boulders? How did you get them to hold up the steel are they just set up against the steel wall? Thanks
our yard but plan on using a smaller retaining wall. I posted a question here and I am wondering if you can offer any advice on how we can go about doing this ...
The boulders are real! I think of the stones as pinning the steel in place since the walls are all slightly concave and as the steel flexes
catching as the plantings. Here steel backs plant beds while boulders add visual depth.

Green, or living, walls are a great example of a simplicity and style that suit block and strip planting. Strips and blocks of evergreen plants create a wonderful pattern of color and texture and provide a wonderful backdrop to a formal contemporary garden.

What do you like about this photo?Window Walls
Large floor to ceiling window walls
Plants around windows would work best around double hung, horizontal side and fixed glass windows and would look best either in a living room or a kitchen.
This is what I want when it comes to outside wall with glass and curtains . Also the plants are
though not mandatory. Mist the plant with water or place it on a bed of rocks sitting in water. The water in the tray will evaporate, providing humidity for the plant. Additionally, bird of paradise likes to be pot bound; it will bloom better this way. So if you divide the plant or move it into a larger pot
