Wood is black walnut and is treated with product that is not food safe. I have wood soap to use regularly and another wax spray to use ocassiomally to keep the shine. These products were provided by the counter manufacturer. Apparently wood countertops resist heat although I don't put hot stuff directly

i love your butcher block coounter! how do you care for it? did you seal it with ploy or an oil of some sort?
The Gettysburg Gray is on the perimeter cabinets with quartz counter top and the Bittersweet Chocolate is on the island cabinetry with the butcher block counter top. Intense White is only on the baseboards and ceiling. Wall color is Florentine Plaster. See enclosed picture.

Happy to do so. The counter on either side of the sink is walnut butcher block and the other side and stove side is granite. If you mouse over the photo, it will tell you what the color of the granite is, and there are

However, I have used maple butcher block in my personal kitchens for years and do use them for cutting. I have always had them on either side of the sink, which makes it over the dishwasher
less maintenance. If you look at my current kitchen with knotty distressed/glazed cherry cabinets (very formal), you will see that I have maple butcher block. I use it every day for chopping. However, I am a neat freak and want it to look wonderful, but I don't mind the "used" surface. Look in my project:
