By removing all existing surrounding walls and landing step a larger footprint was designed to house an oversize island with different heights for each cooks’ comfort, thus being able to pass through easily, giving a traffic flow space between
plenty of storage but taking into consideration to NOT over dominate the space and obtrude the line of site. The use of warm tone materials such as natural walnut is the key element to the space and by adding it to the niche area, it balances the contrast of the light colors and creates a richness and warmth
appearance. Wine service area for easy entertaining, and self service. Concealed vent system at cook top, is not only practical but enhances the clean line design concept. Because of the low ceiling a large over head hood would have broken up line of site. Products used: Millwork cabinets: The kitchen cabinets

custom wine rack above the refrigerator is a spin-off on the open shelving idea, and the gridlike pattern adds interest to the room. Because high temperatures can affect the aging process of wine, this idea works best above modern refrigerators where the coils are on the bottom of the fridge instead of

What type of material is directly underneath & supports the wine bottles in the wine rack under the stairway? I understand the wood framing.
Though wine was suppose to be stored at an angle?
e the wine. Wine needs to be isolated from vibration, out of light, and temperature and humidity controlled. Especially for the quantity in this photo. Unless the wall is to show off consumed bottles. I'm just someone who would feel terrible witnessing this much wine being gradually destroyed.

installed a wine rack above the refrigerator and created a stack of moldings on the upper cabinets to add height to their space. The wall-to-wall white subway tile pairs nicely with the large black floor tile. The range and apron sink with the stainless pull-down faucet were the perfect finishing touches.

for the wine? if so how did you do it?
Wouldn't a wine rack above a fridge always be a bit warm & not ideal for wine storage?
store wine. Heat rises so upper cabinet storage of temperature sensitive wine is a bad idea. Throw in the heat generating fridge below that and you have a double dose of wine killing temps. No matter the storage issues, wine storage in this area is not a good idea.
for the wine. With today's modern refrigerators, we find they don't produce nearly as much heat as the old versions did. Not saying it is "ideal" by any means, but sometimes you have to work with the space you have.
Yes, WAY too hot for wine storage. Unless it's mulled. ;) i prefer to add slat
