The color choices all go well together. What type of wood is used for the wall enclosing the laundry room?

Love the wood and Marmoleum. I would choose a color other than the green, though.
Lovers of natural finishes may be inclined to simply sand the wood down until it's smooth and unstained. Once smooth, add a coat of shellac or polyurethane to seal it and enhance the grain. To give this a more modern touch, pair the natural wood plank with white or charcoal painted walls.
Kitchens are another place where flooring may change. This bright apple green looks spectacular next to the light natural color of the wood. The same wood tones are found in the cabinetry in the kitchen, creating a nice tie-in.

and I are building a new house and have discussed doing old barn wood as our trim throughout the house. We have plenty of old barns on the land we own to get the wood, so that is not a problem but the question is - how do you smooth the wood out without taking away its rustic look? We are going to have
Hey there! We very lightly sand our wood so that for the most part it is smooth, while not completely getting rid of the rustic and aged patina. Wire-brushing after sanding will remove any loose teeth (potential splinters). Finishing the wood will also seal it and, depending on the finish
