Really like the wood floors - what is the species?
The wood floors and ceilings are made from ash that was harvested on site. The columns are white oak, salvaged from a fallen old barn in the area, originally worked-on with hand tools. The douglas fir mullions surrounding the operable windows are provided by Loewen.

glazing for this house makes it fit the modern bill, but one detail made me a tad doubtful: the wood columns are quite different than the steel predominantly used with glass-box houses. Nevertheless, the wood is exposed structure, just like in modern houses by Mies van der Rohe and others with exposed

This remodeled and updated house has tapered wood columns set on stucco pedestals. In contrast to the previous house, the roof formation is a side gable, rather than front facing. A shed dormer penetrates the main roof form. This is a common Craftsman characteristic. Also notice the mixture of stucco

Many of these homes had a low-pitched gable roof, a front porch supported by large, tapered columns, an upper-paned door with the windows separated from the lower half of the door by a thick piece of trim, double-hung windows, a single dormer on the

What is the wood/stain on the pillars? Thank you.
Are the wood posts sitting on top of the stone pillar bases or is the stone built around the wood pillars?
practical is the lovely stained wood in a humid environment like Maryland?
Hello! My husband and I are planning our dream home. Several elements of your design are lovely. I'm especially interested to know about the maintenance requirements of the stained wood shown here. And would it be "practical"

sounds to me like the problem is in the finish. It also sounds like you'd probably be happier with the Pure ''color" which is colorless. It darkens the wood a bit but I think the results are more natural/classic. I am suspicious of the Rubio Cleaner because it seemed to leave a white film when I spot tested
