This countertop is made from Collins FSC Certified Cherry and we used Land Ark NW natural oil finish on this particular countertop. It does take some maintenance but is really easy to spot repair.

put on the counter-top to make it so shiny I have a huge maple top I just had made out of reclaimed bowling alley. I really dont want to lacquer it but was wondering how this one was done if anyone knows
what type of wood is the countertop
I'm thinking about using granite for counters and some sort of butcher block wood for the island. I want to know if it keeps it's finish or how you keep it looking nice?
Paul, you are absolutely correct. We source all of our wood tops from Grothouse Lumber and their finish is called Durata. It is in fact a food grade polyurethane. http://www.glumber.com/countertop-design-guide/wood-finish/durata-wood-countertop-finish/
Thank you for your inquiry! Wood tops are beautiful - and butcher block tops are no exception! We recommend working with our friends at Grothouse Lumber - they do amazing work! www

1/4 sawn rift and white oak counters. I love wood counters but keep them away from the sink
I'm hoping our carpenter can tackle a similar countertop, so interested in how you created this: is it reclaimed wood (cherry?)? And, did you glue the boards first (what glue), and then sand to level, or plane
the long pieces of wood used.
cabinet and some wood away from water
Like the look of white cabinets and wood counter top
2 coates of polyuerthane on wood
Architect Rob Kelley placed this wood counter on cabinetry away from the sink and had it finished with two coats of polyurethane floor varnish in a satin finish.

LOVE the grain and edging around the butcher block top...what wood and stain color were used and who is the manufacturer?
It looks to be a walnut end grain. Here is a good source for butcher blocks. http://chopbloccuttingboards.com/butcher-block-countertops/

Wood counter top on the island with white cabinetry
Woods countertop and cabinet behind. Colors of granite match one cabinet.
e. Adding a wood top to an island while using a different material for the perimeter counters is a terrific way to add some interest and function. Wood counters require periodic oiling to prevent them from drying out but they add a warmth no other material can.More about wood countertops

how you joined the wood planks together on the countertop? Did you fill between the joints?
Are the boards glued? and if so how did you fill the space between the boards....it looks like a solid slab of wood, but I suspect that it isn't. AWESOME project!
What kind of wood is the ceiling and
what wood is used for cabinets, and for island?
Love this kitchen!! How is the wood countertop on
Who cuts directly on their countertops?! I see this question all the time, never cut directly on your counter no matter what it is made of. Always use a cutting board. This is best for your counters, knives, and food safety.
what kind of wood and stain for countertops?
what kind of wood is the island countertop? It is obviously not a traditional butcher block...can it be cut on?
