an Ipe wood deck? If so, do you have to apply a sealant in order for the tannins to not leach into the pool? We're looking at installing an overhanging deck around fiberglass pool. Love the design by the way.
No, there is no concrete under the wood deck. You can build over an old concrete patio if

Raised wood deck for new patio
Wood DeckingWood decks are classic and comfortable, and they fit in just about anywhere. Keep in mind that wood does require more upkeep than other materials, though composite decking is an option if you want the look of wood with less maintenance.Estimated cost: $15 to $30 and up per square foot installed;

Wood decking. And a wood deck is much more inviting than one made of a composite material. Each board will weather at its own pace and take on that patina that says, "Come, sit here and enjoy the view."

the pool deck but are worrying about slippage with small children?
yes it is a gunite pool. That is blue stone coping where it meets the wood deck.
under the deck. Is there a French drain or catch basins to divert the water from collecting and causing algae growth or mosquito haven areas... Or even an increase of wood rot.

Decking. A contractor friend of mine calls wood decks “dry rot in slow motion.” He’s pretty spot-on. Traditional wood decks, regardless of how much waterproofing sealant you apply each year, will eventually succumb to nature’s forces (or termites). But if you’ve got a sloping property, need a level surface

Did this Ipe deck experience cupping and unevenness?
the Ipe' deck had not been stained yet in this image.
We usually use redwood or Ipe' wood. Redwood is softer but will hold a stain longer. Ipe' is more scratch resistant but it is hard to get a sealer to penetrate, so people often have
for a deck. You just want to be mindful that whatever you choose is not creating more labor (which ups the cost) than would be required for the other option. In short don't put a patio where a deck should be or vice versa. Good luck and have fun
