Engineered wood floors. Extending wood floors into the kitchen is a terrific way to seam together several spaces, as this home demonstrates. Doing so requires a stout floor that can take the wear a kitchen doles out. Engineered wood floors can be a durable choice, since they have a thin veneer of finished
finished wood backed by several layers, or plys, of more wood. This layered system makes engineered wood more stable than solid wood and less likely to warp when faced with temperature changes and humidity. Look for FSC-certified and formaldehyde-free options.

The only tile is in the elegant entryway. The wood is stunning still. We leave our shoes in the entry closet and have
like-new floors. The kitchen is definitely in need of refinishing where finish thinned and water has darkened the wood. That is our fault for not refinishing earlier. Even so, it is easily fixed. We were initially concerned about durability, but with moderate care especially regarding shoes and protection
give the wood a slight honey color, while the Water based finish will not. Many old school installer also say Oil based finishes hold up better. Its all in what you want at the end of the day. :-)

Maple is a nearly non-porous wood and it can't absorb dark stains very easily. Dark-stained maple tends to look blotchy — it's a characteristic of the wood, not the stain. Capitola | Bay Area Floors

Painting the wood floors, walls, and wood ceilings in white makes this dining room ethereal. Add an eclectic array of white chairs around the white table and you have an interesting composition. The stained-wood armoire breaks up the white for a warm, balanced space.

Paint floors that aren't in the best shape
Paint the floor. If your wood floors are not in the best shape and you want to avoid professional refinishing, try painting them instead. White is chic but will show every dropped crumb; pale gray and blue are also classic choices. If you want to get creative, try stenciling a design onto the painted floors
paint your floor but wary of going bold and bright? Try grounding the space with a neutral gray hue. It's still an unexpected color for a wood floor, but it has a nice, toned-down vibe.
