It was "newly" constructed in the 19th century from 15th century ceiling panels.
Interestingly, the bed was custom made in the the 1800's using panels from the 1400's!

get so much traffic, wainscoting is a good way to protect the walls. Wood paneling will hold up much better than drywall here.
