I suggest building a pond using 30 ml. butyl rubber liner over a smooth base. Cover with 4-6" round river rock. Bury edges of liner. Set any focal rock on top of liner.

could work. I like the beamed ceiling if we don't do beadboard. I don't want shelves above my stove like this though, although the open feeling is nice -
and the work surfaces are bathed in natural light during the day, meaning light fixtures can be comfortably kept off.
