Don't think that this house is as bad as you think, and that Margo has summarized a list of really great ideas. Changing the front door and working to either replace or paint the brick/stone combination will go a long way.

paint the upper brick a nice taupe, like Ben Moore ashley grey, HC-37, leave stone alone. garage door will be same as house, front door in HC-137, Stratton blue. pull monster shrub our and remove railing by front door. accent front corners of stoop with flower pots. no more cat.lady house, and a great beginning.

First thought that jumps to mind would be modifying your landscaping so that there are some taller elements. What you have appears to be very thought out and well maintained, however all of the plants are rather short.

Here are a few examples for you. Navy, silver blue, and a green/blue color. All are against a tan colored home. Should give you an idea of what your house would look like.

Best way to see if you like them - buy some paint samples in the colors you like. Paint a piece of wood or even cardboard and tape to your house. Step back, look at them, take pictures of all of the colors.

By taking pictures, you can look at them over and over and decide what you like the best!

You have a lot of options which will work very well. Sticking with more historic colors will enhance the character of the home as other perceive it.

I like how you cleverly installed that wall oven. So many kitchens have them installed UNDER the countertops lately. Seems an unhappy trend. Looks great! We have a small kitchen, the people before, managed to squeeze one in. Can't imagine stooping way down to retrieve hot food, uncomfortable and dangerous. Hope you're enjoying the summer ….
