Moroccan arch brought in by architect, to "recreate" the arch lost at small niche in old kitchen. we wanted to keep the Moroccan element going & thought of putting exotic tile at stove backsplash. we added the cobalt blue tile instead, wood elements (palette wood found by cabinet maker in attic - suggested to torn into the island)

Perched on a bluff overlooking Block Island Sound, the property is a flag lot at the edge of a new subdivision, bordered on three sides by water, wetlands, and woods. The client asked us to design a house with a minimal impact on the pristine landscape, maximum exposure to the views and all the amenities of a year round vacation home. The basic requirements of each space were considered integrally with the effects of sunlight, breezes and views. The house was conceived as a lens, continually framing and magnifying the subtle changes in the surrounding environment.

The new kitchen for this English-style 1920s Portland home was inspired by the classic English scullery—and Downton Abbey! A royal color scheme, British-made apron sink, and period pulls ground the project in history, while refined lines and modern functionality bring it up to the present. Photo: Anna M. Campbell

This 1927 historic home was in need of a new kitchen in an entirely new room, right next to it! The old kitchen became a much needed mudroom and entry to the outdoor dining patio. The powder room was kept however the door location was changed. The colors were inspired by the mediterranean colors of sea, sky, trees and sun! Custom cut stained glass backsplash completed this fun and colorful space to cook and entertain!
