Refacing existing brick fireplace

I see that you framed out with wood the fireplace to fasten the backer board. Could you also find a way to fasten the backer board directly to the brick?

    You could probably could glue the cement board onto the brick with PL premium, yet I designed the reface to give the fireplace more depth. With the more prominent sides which flank the firebox, it also provides good support for wood mantel.

    You can only glue cement board onto brick using mortar. PL can be used if its an electric fireplace insert. Gas and wood burning produce too much heat which will melt the glue.

    Thank you for showing how corners and sides can be created to look pleasing. Like the look of building it out. Inset floor tile is perfect. Design is fabulous.
