I like the diamond pattern. Maybe a little larger pattern?

Thanks Darcy! I like the diamond too but larger would be nice if I can find it.

I like the diagonal pattern too, it is fresh, and somehow makes the room appear larger to me. I actually liked the sample you had on the hardwood. Is that available locally? And do you like the color? To me, the swirls/floral are a bit more traditional and if you are going for a comtemporary vibe, then the diamond/diagonal says that, but that's just my opinion.

Yes, the gray diagonal/diamond pattern is available locally. I love the color but trying to figure out if it complements my accent firplace wall. I believe it works with the rest of the room. It's actually a metallic paint with silver blended in but not sure if that comes through in the photos? I did rule out the swirls/floral as they are too traditional for my contemporary house.

Beginning to narrow it down, finally, thanks to all of you! I think this is one of my top choices. What do you all think about this pattern & color?
Hmmm..... not easy to see the color! It's actually a gray. Not too light but not too dark either.
Not sure about that one Gail. It looks more like a basket weave??

    Really???
It may not look like in person, the last one sort of reminds me of lattice work. Not that it's not nice. I like the one you showed on Tuesday at 6:03 pm best so far.
I still like that one too but thought since I have such a large room that a larger pattern might look better, but doesn't necessarily have to be larger. I liked the photo you posted above!
I like the ones that have a little texture to it. You?

The carpet above may look a bit like plaid when installed.

I see your point Darzy & blunan. I have this in one of my offices & really like it but it's an office, not my living room.

I like the first carpet picture you posted on the 22nd. (The first one with the swirls). The room seems to have lots of square shapes and sharp angles as in the fireplace and the the furniture. I think it needs some subtle softness all over the room which is what that carpet would accomplish. What about a taupe color? Taupe is a grey beige.

As quality is the first priority for longevity of your carpet, perhaps start with manufacturer/content decision and that may narrow down your pattern choices and then color. When we replaced our carpet, we learned that wool is the best wearing and found some very well priced wool carpets from New Zealand. I think that if you go with a larger pattern, you may get tired of it. I really like the choice bluenan provided, as it's an easy carpet to live with for a long time. Also purchase the best underpading you can, as it will prolong the life of the carpet.

It's been a little while but I think I found a carpet for my living room. I would love some feedback before I actually put a deposit down? :)

My carpet is 10 years and looks brand new! It's wool...
I have wool carpets in some other rooms & they all look great but this rug in the living room is so worn & doesn't look good at all!
Okay, let's try again for a pic!

Uploaded the pic of my carpet selection. Would love to hear some feedback as to yay or nay for my living room? Thank you!

Gail- I have been following along as I am in your same dilemma. I am looking for a patterned or loop carpet for my living area. I am gravitating towards Darzy's and bluenans selections. I would think this would look too busy maybe once all laid down??
I keep getting drawn to this Sisalweave by Moda;) They say it comes in 30 colors;)

Do you really think so? I'm trying g to get a much bigger carpet sample to lay down in the room before ordering. I feel like I've exhausted all my possibilities, but I'm sure there's plenty I haven't seen. I was drawn to this particular one & feel like the pattern & color would work nicely in the room but carpet isn't always easy to choose!
Margo - I do like that one as well as I've contemplated that carpet for my room too!
I know I definitely need some pattern & texture in my room & I have a lot of stainless throughout the house so wanted to get away from a beige/taupe color rug & try a gray color.

That is my worry. I look at all these little samples and wonder what they will look like in full installation. I have Frieze (sp?) now and after 9 years it still looks good, but I need a change;) I hope you post with your final results. I hope to make my choice in Oct or Nov.

Margo - Which room in your house are you carpeting?

I need a change too but mostly this carpet looks & feels so worn!
Actually, I live in a ranch. I am carpeting the great room and the bedrooms and the hall.
Hey- what do you think of my milk crate shelf unit. Cost $80 lol
  • 11 years ago
This is off the subject but have you thought about putting a shallow console table behind your sofa? I like not having to look at a sofa back personally;)
Gail, I like your newest choice a lot, I think it would add interest and sophistication in an otherwise all solid room. If your room was filled with pattern it might be too much, but I like it for your current room.
Listen to bluenan;) my problem lies with lack of sophistication;)))
Thank you bluenan! Exactly what I want to hear! :)
Margo - Very creative & looks good to me! What is across the top?
Margo - I think you're right! It is a very big room & I do have minimal furniture but my entire house is filled with built ins, more than I can fill so I opted for less furniture everywhere. The living area definitely could use more accessorizing & a console table behind the couch would fit perfectly & fill the room a bit more. I know what you mean about the back of the couch view & my cleaning crew loves to vacuum it & the lines have been bothering me for some time now. lol
  • 11 years ago
Any console suggestions are welcomed! : ) I'm in the picture hanging mode lately so purchasing a console table would fit right in!
New carpet just installed! What do you think of it?
One more pic! Would really love some feedback!
Well, I for one, love it. I had never seen the cool and interesting curves in your island and floor transition. I think it really enhances the room. How do you like it?!
Thank you bluenan! I think I love it! I think I just need to get used to it. I can never decide until I live with something a day or so. My husband thinks the room looks more empty with this rug but I'm a minimalist.
I love it! The ever so slight design/pattern is nice in this space! Bet it smells good, too!
I love it! I think you need different furniture arrangement.
I think I do too but I'm not sure how I can arrange the furniture differently? I've tried moving the 2 chairs with the backs facing the television but it's not so good for TV viewing.
I think the furniture arrangement works with what you have, but as mentioned before, a sofa table will really help to add interest, warm the space, and define the area.
I can definitely think about purchasing a sofa table. My couch is custom so it's very long so I would need the right size table.

    It looks great!!!
