Roller shade are more up to date than curtains. Consult a specialist. It's a much cleaner look. They can be bock out or sun protection.

Perhaps place some temporary window treatment first for the time being.

Top down/bottom up shades will give you the most versatility. Lowering them partially from the top will give you some light and a view out while still preserving your privacy. When you are ready to greet the world head on you can open them all the way up from the bottom. Add some decorative drapery panels on either side and you're done!
