It seems quite narrow. I would focus on one side to use. Floating shelves would give more storage space, break up the black and allow for some creativity. Kitchen stainless storage racks come in all sizes and again would keep some openness to your space. You have very little counter. A narrow desk might work and you could take it with you. Are there limits to what you can change or add in a rental?
