Need Help Choosing Japanese Maple

Hello, we live in zone 5 and are looking to redo our landscaping in October. This particular location is partial shade. Everything will go in our current landscape EXCEPT for two dogwoods. There is a location where we would like to plant a Japanese maple. I would like to start with a red, dissectum variety. In our area, there are garnets and Takeyuma JP's that would fit the bill. The Takeyuma appears to be a bit taller and may fit in well in between these taller dogwoods. However, these dogwoods are a bit disease prone and who knows how much longer they will live. Furthermore, we are looking to re-landscape and incorporate slower, less pruning necessary choices. So, we might be looking down the road to replace the dogwoods with two other japanese maples. So...I might want to have three shorter, more mounding varieties (an orange, a lime green and a red). If that were the case, perhaps the garnet would be the better choice? Advice and insights welcome!! Thanks in advance for your time.
