How much of a rule is that? As much as you want it to be. People have done islands with 2 pendants, 3 pendants, etc. We suggest (in our light sizing guide at http://bit.ly/1cuh1Fj) that you space pendants 2 feet apart over an island. So, you could go for about 3 Sayres over the island. But there is a great opportunity to make a statement with two bigger ones...In the end, it's your choice!

I did a Houzz search for "very long kitchen island" to familiarize myself with different ways people light these. There are many, to say the least!




We love the Sayre, by the way. Since it has a wide body but very slender downrod, they won't take up as much visual space as some of the pendants in the example photos. Hope this helps and let us know if you need more advice!

Question: if I decide to do the 2 larger ones, do you think I should do 2 of the 12" or 2 of the 14"? A 14" light just seems so enormous to me!

If you think the 14 inch sounds too big, don't go for it. Go for the 12 inch instead. It's your home and you should have everything just as you want it, especially considering you are building your own (congratulations)!
