need help with a design dilemma . is it appropriate to mix metals?

What are the design "rules" for metals used in kitchen and bathroom design. I have noticed a mixture of metals used on faucets, lighting fixtures and door hardware. Is it acceptable to mix oil rubbed bronze and nickel in the same room …or through out the house?

In general, the metals should match. One caveat is with a bathroom. You will often find a whole house with one particular metal finish and a bathroom with something different. Different people have varying opinions on the knob.....we are proponents of maintaining the whole house metal on the door knob rather than trying to do the interior of a knob to match the "bathroom" color, and the exterior portion of the knob to match the whole house. Make sense? IMO, gauge the style of your home for final decision, but continuity is the general rule.
