How far should these sconce be from mirror?

We're remodeling our fireplace and have decided to add couple sconces next to the mirror above. Our dilemma is where we should position the sconces? Right next to it or a little off of it as indicated in picture.

I'm sorry, but I don't think there is any room. That slanted part of the wall makes it impossible for the sconces to be visually symmetrical--as opposed to literally equidistant-- in relation to the mirror.

It might be cool, however, to have some kind of modern pendant light hang in the corner where the plant currently resides.

Will you be adding anything else to the surround of the fireplace? I think they're too far out in the photo. I think mcbriec might be confusing the shadow from the upstairs railing for a slanted wall feature.

Thank you both. That slant is indeed the upstairs railing. Custom mantel is being fabricated at the moment. Here is a view from the other side of the room.

We need to a see a wall elevation at least to see how the fireplace will be finished...as this will help me to asnwer this question...

I would center the sconces over the side posts of your surround.

Agree with Rachel H. If you feel that crowds the mirror, then you might want to rethink the mirror (or the sconces).
