Good morning. I just went through this exact same thing. I was like a crazy lady with about 50 samples on my walls. I decided I could not do gray. I ended up using Benjamin Moore's Natural Linen and am extremely happy with it. Just FYI, this color is VERY similar to Benjamin Moore's Manchester Tan, which is used in all of the Pottery Barn catelogs. It is just slightly darker. It looks quite different on the walls then on the chip. In my house it looks like a cooler (not cold) beige/tan with a slight gray/green undertone (depending on time of day, lighting...etc.). Also, I initially chose Edgecomb Gray but because I was reluctant about it the painter painted two 20 ft. walls in my living room this color. It went too blue and cold (in this particular room) so that it when I switched to Natural Linen. I did the majority of our house in this color and it looks great in every room in all lighting and facing all directions. Just FYI...I did end up using Edgecomb Gray in my babies room and it looks completely different in there then it did in my living room. In her room it looks much more like the "Greige" I was going for. So....you may want to try both colors!! I would love to hear what you end up choosing. I wish you the best! How about Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter

Paint is SOOOO tricky. I was so hoping to do Revere Pewter but in my space it was a bit too dark and it too went blue!! It has to be put on the walls for sure!!

any color can be lightened at the paint store if it's too dark.

Amazing Gray in the vanity area and the bedroom....reads more warm (greige) without the camera flash......

Thank you Amy! I tried about 6 in the bedroom. Finally decided this was the one I liked the best and just went for it. I almost stopped about halfway through the first wall because the paint looked dark purple!!!! Hubby said just finish the wall and turn the corner and see how it looks. LOVE this room now!!!!! It is on the north/northeast end of the house and has a lot of old tall trees, so not a lot of natural light. Even on a sunny day there is only about 3 hours of brighter light in the morning!
Now if I can find the right color for the guest bathroom :-(

I know Benjamin Moore can make any paint colors and I love Pratt & Lambert's Gull it's a perfect grey - not green and not taupe.

Well, pale to medium colors anyhow; saturation level ought to be indicated on can, usually around 10%, above which additional tint will "turn" paint and make it harden.

I've always made my own anyhow as shop mixed are;
a. expensive
and
b. rarely turn out to give the indicated color as all rooms have different surfaces + natural and artificial lighting which inevitably cause variations.

*black, blue, magenta and the two yellows are all that i ever need.

I looked up Natural Linen & Manchester Tan and they look SOOO CLOSE! What do you guys think of Valley Forge Tan? I had this and Revere Pewter - as well as Pale Oak (I thought of doing the dark (VF Tan) for the main house and Pale Oak for bedrooms....then the Rock Grey in the bathroom where there's marble basket weave on the floor and white subway tile - may be too dark?

We love Sherman Williams Agreeable Grey. Looks more beige in bright light, grey in the evening.

dreamhomeinwkz......I wish I could get my choices "narrowed down" :-) I'm having such a hard time deciding for the guest bathroom I can not imagine having to choose color for the whole house.

The Manchester Tan and Natural Linen do look so similar on the paint chips, but when you get them on the wall you can see the difference. Manchester Tan appears more in the off-white category with a hint of green undertone ( at least in my home) the Natural Linen just stays so true to the tan/khaki color. Our department/offices at work are painted the Grant Beige....definitely has green undertones. I see photos of the Pale Oak and think it looks so pretty.....may need to try a sample of it in my guest bath. I did a sample of the Revere Pewter in my master.....went to silver (blue undertone) in that room.

Beautiful room. What other finishes are chosen ? The floor is? How is the room being used? Any furniture plans, lighting is what kind of bulbs( lamps) exposure to natural light, etc.

That BM Amazing Gray and the Sherwin Williams Agreeable gray are both very nice. Have you tried the SW Emerald paint, it is very nice and rich, great depth of color. BM Aura is nice too.

Seattle Gray- BM It is subtle and looks like several different colors, depending on the light.

We painted our main floor foyer, upstairs hall and main floor powder room Benjamin Moore "Silver Dollar"which we love completely. It's a very warm grey tone and goes brilliantly with Benjamin Moore "cloud white" for the trim. We also painted our kitchen benjamin Moore "paper mâché". Which also looked nice with the grey.

Natalie - thanks for the links! Love the Collingwood; i'm going back to the BM and SW websites to check out this and the other great suggested colors. Contractor advised Natural Linen was good but other colors are very dark (i'm sure he's right) - so trying to confirm my selections = can't believe how hard it is to pick a main color, and then one that looks good with carrara (I think the Natural Linen may be too warm/beige) - also need an accent for powder bath or boys bath etc.

I had the hardest time choosing a neutral paint color for our living room /dining room area. It really does depend on the light that comes in. And the color of your floors. Some colors that looked good in other people's homes had too much undertone. I used many samples and painted them on white paper and moved them around the room. We ended up with C2 paint shiitake and very happy with the solid beige without any undertone colors.

gduplessis - I completely agree! Our house is pretty dark (small windows 100+yrs old)...so seeing it w/white primer has made me want to stay really light! Also, our main floor has a dark hardwood (photo attached)...so I think that adds a lot of "color" and dark/warmth. Thanks for the color suggestion - i'll check it out. I'm currently considering: Collingwood, Natural Linen and Pale Oak for the main house.

Also thinking I may let the foyer, dining room & kitchen be a white - so the marble/wood counters - wood/marble floors and other items stand out. Any suggestions on how best to do this? Do I just take the crown and baseboard color to the walls? Or what type of clean white should I use given the other main house color if another color is needed? Also - I have a foyer wall that's 2 stories - if I leave the rest of the foyer (1 story as a round landing above) white - what should I do with the accent wall?

It's not BM although I purchased it at the BM store. Talked to the color specialist there and shared my concern that every BM paint had some kind of undertone (purple/blue/pink/yellow etc) so she recommended this C2 paint and it was really nice to find a color that works in our rooms. We painted the rooms five years ago and I'm still not tired of the color. The shade it definitely darker in the summer as we have lots of trees in the yard. It's funny (and annoying) that there are so many shades of beige, but only a few will work in your house. I think the shitake might be too dark for your floors. Your house is stunning btw! Squeeky - thanks for the inquiry / you're right! Furnishings make a huge difference. I've attached pictures from our old house - all furniture, rugs & accessories will come with us. Old house was much more of a stone colonial PA house...this one we've totally renovated so a bit more of a blank slate though still an old PA house - trying to get a new fresh feel with a lot of the same things - hence i'm thinking of the sconces and dining room light attached but same furniture (and this kitchen's white vs. old one dark wood)

lighting for over the island...the color in the photos was Shelborn Buff (BM) / bedrooms putnum ivory (BM) and the dark color that's in the dining room I forget - looks like a paper bag : )

To answer the question regarding white throughout-yes, you can use the same color, just paint all the trim in a gloss finish and walls in flat or eggshell. In addition, you could paint the ceilings the warm gray/tan you choose for the other areas.
For the boys' room---check out BM's Half Moon Crest and SW's Silver Strand. Both are light-if you want more "wow" paint the ceilings or one wall two shades darker than the wall color you select. Keep us posted...

I really like BM white sand - it is the perfect neutral!

Torn between White Sand, Temporal Spirit, Natural Linen (all on same swatch) Manchester Tan, Or Clay Beige. I have burgundy accents as well as sage, peach and golds. Not changing furniture nor rugs!!! I had Meican In dining room, sage in formal living room and peanut shell in den. W fennel seed in foyer and hallways. Want One color now throughout!!! HELP!!!! Was leaning towards White Sand but now I think I like Natureal Linen as feel it may lend itself better to the burgundy and sage. Others may be too Greige or too much like washed out white in some rooms w diff lighting throughout day. So confused!

Kelly, what looks good in her room might not in yours. diff lighting can alter undertones and hues.

why not get samples and try them, and post the pictures on a new post of you own? this one is 3 years old and allioo may not get a notification on someone elses dilemma.
