Need help designing tub with window in tub/shower to be waterproof
Comments (2)This is so helpful. I want to put vinyl plantation shutters in my shower. Similar to photo below. My contractor says he needs to tile into the recessed area to protect it from moisture, but my shutter guy does not want to risk drilling holes in the tile to mount the shutters as he is afraid of cracking the tile. I have these all over my home and really wanted this look. Can you advise any way to protect the recessed area for the shutters to still be installed? The shutters are vinyl and waterproof. Comments (23)oliviag55, I didn't think about the cleaning aspect of the stone veneer but you are right it seems like it would be a pain. So.... stone veneer is out. Now it's just between option 1 and 2 unless anyone else has a better idea. FYI, this is a guest bathroom and there is no shower (the tub has a handheld shower thing). And by "guest bathroom" I mean an extra bathroom where I can take long baths on occasion LOL. There is another extra extra bathroom though if we have guests who want to take a real shower. Flo Mangan, you mean 4-6" above the tub right? There is a ledge that extends outwards from the bottom to 18" above the tub. My idea was to tile that with the floor tile and maybe add an accent strip at the top. I love the wave pattern pebble tiles I have seen on houzz... unfortunately we are DIY'ing the tiles so anything that requires a "good tiler" is not doable. :( On a side note....love this look (and the pebble tile)!...See MoreRuB a Dub Tub..I gotta get a FREE STANDING TUB
Comments (41)Thanks @Ondre'a! Can you tell me why? Where did you get the faucet? I like this shaped tub SO MUCH and the price is good. Thinking as I get older it'll be easier to get in/out of. Any chance you'd post a pic of you sitting in it like you're reading? FULLY CLOTHED DUH! We are the same height and it'd be OH SO HELPFUL since I can't test it out....See MoreWaterproofing help for a wet room with a free standing tub
Comments (2)They are a truly terrible idea on multiple fronts. And the fact that you're working with someone that still uses the old fashioned and out of date liner says that you're working with the entirely wrong group of professionals. You need a proper tile professional who works well with the right plumber. This has to involve both. And a GC with a clue. How you can not be working with this high skill level of pros already is bizarre, given what you advertise you and your firm to be. You need ones who work with a membrane system like Kerdi. And add 10K to your usual job here for the upgrade in Pros and the upgrade to the waterproofing technology. Or give up this horrible idea. Even with top notch waterproofing, penetrations to it are always risky. You'd be better off suggesting putting a bath tub on a roof. It's the same thing, but would have a better view....See MoreBella Abba
