WANTED: Wanted Onion seed for onion that grows on top of ground

A friend of mine said a relative used to grow onions that were planted in the ground but the onion actually grew above ground. It was a slicing onion and there was no more seed. Does anyone have this seed? I would pay for seed or trade seed for other vegetables.
