I never get a great germination rate on my peas, and they seem to take so long to come up (I have used innoculant in the past). I am really trying to get more peas this year. Usually we only get enough for one pot of soup, as the kids eat most of them raw outside in the garden.

I read about pre-sprouting them, so... About three days ago I put the seeds in baggies with some very moist seed-starting mix. I noticed this morning that they had swelled up, but hadn't sprouted yet, so I put them on the radiator for a little heat - and unfortunately left them there for hours! When I opened the bags there was a very strong gassy smell.

Do you think they are still OK? Should I plant them today as the bed is already prepared and fenced? It is supposed to rain for the next few days. Maybe I shouldn't have been fooling with Mother Nature in the first place.

Also can I plant more intensely that the 2 inches apart, 18" between rows?
