promote food inc. as it is a very digestable way for people to wrap their heads around these complex issues

Well, this is not just 'a bunch of garbage or bullcrap':
Senate bill 510 would require a 'food producers' to open their facilities to Federal inspection, produce in essence, a document proving the safety of their food, and require licensing(tax) in the form of at least a $500 'permit'.
Most who are up in arms about this is small farms and 'hobby' farms, effectively shutting down local farmers markets, produce stands, etc.

I am not one that likes big government or goverment controls, But we are getting more and more government controls everyday in all walks of life and many are more intrusive than this bill. What I detest about these threads is the repetition of such obvious lies and blame gaming. This bill in its worst scenario only affects market growers who cross state lines. States will continue to control within the state. That will probably change in the future, but at present the feds only regulate interstate commerce. The driving force is the recent Salmonella and E, coli scares. Monsanto, Syngenta, Vilmorin, Dupont etc has little to do with it. It does not have a huge impact on ag chemical sales which is their big concern.

Not again! Study the bill, not what everybody says about it, geez.

All the news about food illnesses makes me think they're up to something I'm not gonna like. This is just my opinion, and I'm sure some people will disagree, but I don't believe safeguarding our health is the motivation behind these bills. Ok, back to planting my tomatoes...
