Leaf cutter bees.

So it is beneficial bee, I saw some at my backyard. I have lots of wasps too and I am trying to induce them away from the grape vines and fig trees.. how? I covered the fig trees with bird net to dicover two small birds trying hard to pull the net or break it. Close examination I found that there is abird nest in the tree with very small three babies.I had to take the net off. catch 22

I don't think so, based upon the description. I've had leaf cutter bees before, they cut circular pieces out of my rose foliage. The insects I've seen recently were flying with blades of grass.

Here you go. It's a grass-carrying wasp. Who knew!

Thank you Jean! That looks like what I saw. One of them was building a nest under a storm window, as described in the link. It really is a strange sight, seeing a tiny insect flying with a blade of grass much longer than itself. At first, all you see is the grass.
