Without the male or other pollen source, you can probably guess. Kolomitka didn't take but 3 or 4 years to come into full bearing for me as I recall. Well, full-bearing probably isn't the word considering how often they froze out. In L. Is. you may have better success, but I prefer some of the Arguta strains for quality and later flowering.

Grover- your post heading starts "3rd leaf kolo..." is the variety of your kolo called 3rd leaf or r u saying the 3rd leaf is sprouting a bloom! i realize im probably making an idiot of myself with this q!

Gerry, when I say 3rd leaf it means newly propagated Kolomikta Kiwi plants have been growing in my yard two seasons and this is the third growing season. I bought these from House of Wesley 2 male 6 female for $40. All grew great except the one I killed with fertilizer the first season. The plants really look in perfect condition now. They are growing on a Y trellis pointed South to North. With full sun from 8 am, very organic soil and lots of summer water from automatic sprinklers. I give them 15-15-15 fertilizer in spring and summer.

Harvestman, I just checked again and there are no male flower buds but the two female plants have buds. The only pollen I could find on the net was for the fuzzy supermarket type Kiwi. Will you have any male K. Kiwi pollen?

Fuzzy kiwi pollen works great on kolomiktas. You will not get any viable seeds, but the fruits will be full size and otherwise normal.

I have found kolomiktas to be among the most precocious of all kiwi species, typically blooming the year after planting. They are best for areas without spring frost problems, as they leaf out really early. They also seem to do much better with lots of shade (up to ~70%) in warmer regions.
