Scat Cat! ...it's doing it's duty in the garden

Hi,

I wasn't sure what garden forum to post to sorry. My daughter just recently bought a home. Much time was taken pulling out weeds from a much neglected garden. Raked the dirt etc..Problem is a stray cat seems to want to do it's #2 duty there. Daughter will clean it up and before you know it the cat has done it again. She tried moth balls but when it rains I guess the smell of the moth balls go away, plus its unsightly. Any suggestions for stopping this critter from doing this? Thank you.

Hot Pepper Flakes.... buy a huge container of them and sprinkle in the area. Once the cat inhales, it won't want to come back to that spot.

my aunt told me to spray with amonia...if it quits raining I will try it.

Do not use hot pepper please. If an animal, or child, or you for that matter gets it in your eyes serious damage could result. I know the cat is a pest, but would you really want to see it scratch it's eyes out because the pepper got in them.

Moth balls are a horrid poison that you should not touch or breathe. They should NOT be allowed to even sell them!
Try growing catnip maybe she will be so goofy shell leaveLOL.The thing cats hate most is water. If you catch it in the act squirt with water.
***There is a gizmo that is motion activated that squirts water to keep herons out of peoples KOI ponds but I do not know its name

I have two dogs that I love dearly, but they sneak into the flower beds to lay whenever they can. I have been tryinhg something new that you might try also.

Animals don't like things that are wet or sticky to walk in. I bought some diapers and removed the inside stuff and put that down on the bed- lightly covering it with mulch. (Like I read on here that people put into their containers.)So far it is discourging the dogs from lying in the bed, so you might try it for the cat.

I am guessing that it will eventually wash down into the soil, and hopefully will hold moisture for the flowers at the root level, so it should be good for them too.

I have seen them for deer. I imagine they make them for smaller animals too or that you can adjust it for smaller animals. It is harmless to the animal ... just scares the bejesus out of them. lol! It is one of those motion sensor water sprayers. When an animal gets near one, it shoots off water like one of those twirly sprinklers used to do. Sprays the animals and they run off. I would think a cat would just HATE one of those. lol!

Either that or put something like rocks as mulch in the garden. I don't think cats like walking on sharper objects like that so I would think they wouldn't want to squat on it either.

I was just in the Frugal Gardener forum and one hint was to add coffee grounds to keep cats away.I go to Starbucks and pick them up as they are great for the garden anyway.

Sprinkle used coffee grounds on the garden. This has worked for me for years. I don't know if it is the smell, or the texture that deters the cats, but it works for me.
