No, I've never heard of a lath house before, but I sure like it. Love the path and all the different flowers and elements they added to this one. ~Anj

I grew up in Oklahoma and we had one in our backyard. When my folks bought the place, it had an old rotten plant propagation tray in it so we removed that and bricked in the floor with some salvaged bricks. Hung some pretty patio lights out there and used it as the BBQ area with pinic table etc. Many, many hours of fun out there for the last 30 yrs!
It had some sort of vine growing across the top of it. The vine almost pulled the building apart (must be about 20' x 24') and was destroying the laths on top. We reinforced the roof lath with some hog panels (heavy gauge wire panels) several years ago and it is still in great shape.

Wow, must have one now. That is so awesome and I can just imagine having one to hang out in. I would put a a chaise lounge in one corner and chill.

    Wow.
    So nice.

Is it good for plants because it lets some light in but not all?

Also, it must shelter them from the wind and heavy rain.

What are the other benefits, other than aesthetics??

I would really like to make one of these, but not sure if it can hold up to our heavy snow falls. I looked online to see if I could find some instructions and info regarding that, and there is not much out there. If anyone finds anything, please post it here. Thanks

I have a small one on the side of our deck - built completely out of junk of course! The "panels" are window security grills and the top is actually a pallet. Its one onf those wierd skinny pallets that wall panels come on for construction - you have to keep your eye out for them and ask nicely!

if you go to my memberpage and click on my photobucket, you can see inside pix under deckside garden. The vines are pink jasmine - $1.00 each on the clearance rack at the hardware store.
