Yankee Candle Conundrum

I love Yankee candles, but they're a bit pricey for my budget. I thought that maybe using their tarts and a candle warmer might be an economical solution. I've been using one for a couple of weeks and like it just fine. But I decided yesterday to change the scent, and discovered that I have no idea how to get out the melted wax from the first one. Is there a trick to this, or do I just have to scrape it out? If scraping's the answer, would it be better to have the wax cold, or warm enough to be pliable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that putting the container in the fridge or freezer makes the wax brittle and it can be gotten out easily. I guess it depends on the container too. I don't know if it works or not. If all else fails, give it a try.

How about using a candle warmer (a.k.a. coffee warmer) to melt the wax and then pour it out? Some people also use these to get their expensive candles to give off their perfume without using up the wick or engulfing their animals' tails in flames. :o)

I do the same thing and just turn it upside and run it under hot water for about 5 minutes. It all comes out in a clump.

What's a Yankee Candle? I have never even heard of one.

I do it the way Marda does it's easy to get out that way.

Sheila, it's a brand of candle that when it burns, it still has scent. Lots of candles smell good when they're sitting on the shelf, but only the more expensive ones smell good as they burn and will perfume the house.

I've found that they pop right out of the burners with a tiny little nudge from a knife. I've done this with two different kinds of tart warmers.

I use the tarts alote. I just out the whole thing in the
freezer for about a hour and they pop right out.

I pop them in the microwave. This also works very well to soften wax or burn marks inside the jar. Easily wiped off with a papertowel.

Those of you who use Yankee...what kind do you like? I use the Cinnamon Stick and Home Sweet Home ( which is also mainly cinnamon) a lot in the winter. I don't like real perfumy fragrances floating around but have to admit their Sage and Citrus is pleasant sometimes. They have a new one coming out in March called Country Linen. I am a sucker for names like that.

For those Yankee candle fans, you might want to check out this website for My Maryland Candles. Last fall I ran across their table at an arts a crafts festival and bought as many as I could carry. The scents are so wonderful and in my opinion better than Yankee. Here's their homepage link below. When you click on candles it will show you the sizes. Click on one of the sizes and then there is a drop down where they list their many scents. My favorite is called "Indian Summer". They make soaps too.

My favorite Yankee candle scent is citrus and sage.Besides the candles there is also the spray that lasts along time.I also have the wall plug- in.It is continuous and needs to be refilled from time to time.I really like it.Another favorite brand is Colonial at Home.Very long lasting scents.

I'll have to try those sometime, di. Thanks.

Kid problems have put getting wax out of a pot kinda low on the priority list at the moment, but I'll let you all know whether freezing, hot water or just poking with a knife turns out to be best. Can't do the microwave thing as the holder is metal.

As far as fragrances go, I prefer floral, while STBDH likes the ones that smell like something good is in the oven. Makes for an interesting mix of scents at times...

di, good to see you posting. JanetM was asking about you this past weekend and I told her you hadn'tbeen around for a while. Welcome home and tell us about your new house.

I checked out the My Maryland candle site and was about to order two $7.50 candles only to discover that they wanted $9.65 to ship them, which makes the cost nearly $12 apiece. I'll have to look for them locally if I want to try these. The scents sound wonderful.
