It's embarrassing...

I had much trouble with my e-mail bouncing, rather selectively, so I set up a test, asking people in my address book to send a message to both my personal e-mail address and to my Yahoo account, to see what was happening.

I talked with my ISP and discovered they used a anti-spam system that apparently made a lot of mistakes, that's why some of my mail bounced, so I told them to remove me from that system, and all was well.

I made snide remarks about trusting automated robots to replace common sense and then, duh, all my Yahoo-mail bounced because this common-sense human mis-typed the address, left out one letter and did not proof-read the message before hitting "send"

All I can say is "nobody is prerferct (sic)

    Oooh, you have my sympathy.

My office e-mail is supposed to be set up so that often-used addresses are kept in an e-"address book" and will self-enter after 3 or 4 letters of the surname are typed into the address box. Well, it works sort-of and sometimes ... but don't depend on it. I'd like to have a penny for each time it either didn't work at all or would list all the similar surnames *except* the one I wanted. I guess it's one those things that's a great idea, but needs more 'patches' before the ideality actually becomes a reality.

Let's go have a chocolate bar, we deserve it in spite of our best efforts being otherwise.

I think a thread on our personal computer mistakes would be fun. Not everyone would fess up though..kind of ego damaging. My email is set up so that when I type in an address, all I need are the first couple of letters and Outlook Express automatically fills it in..but I don't always check to make sure the right one gets in. Consequently,PeaBee and a good friend here in Pa have the same first letters in their address. Peabee has received many of my emails to Pat and probably knows more than she would ever want to about my social life, simply because I didn't add that last letter to the address.

My favorite story is the one wherein Jaz's not so happy officemate sent her rantings to Jaz (and her as always, diplomatic answer back)!!!

I don't fiddle with the computer much outside of work, so mine is work, not personal. But it's ugly. I have the inside track for things at work because I work with the top dude. We had a search committee going, and of course, with the different types of input needed to cover all the bases for our hirees, the committee, by definition, is very diverse. I was compiling the comments after a particular guest visited, to be distributed before the next meeting, in order to see which obstacles needed to be overcome before hiring. One committee member, having done it a blue million times, had two sets of comments, one for the head of the committee only, and one for the committee, much more watered down and middle of the road. Of course, I, in my infinite wisdom, sent the blasting email to all the committee, including the Dean, which had the part bolded (the part that was supposed to draw my attention to the email, as the one not to send), DO NOT SHOW THIS TO THE COMMITTEE. UGH!!! Biggest faux pas ever, and I'm still redfaced whenever I see the guy. God love him.

I'm on a Yahoo Group list for retirees from my company. It's useful for asking about how to deal with changes in the medical insurance and things like that, but a lot of times it's a forum for people who can't let go of the workplace & b*tch & moan just like they did when they were working. A friend who is also on the list, but not used to how list like Yahoo of Google groups work meant to reply to just me about how all this people complaining were making her tired, but hit "reply all" instead. I've done that too & it's pretty embarrassing.
