Name That Plant!

I need to know what this is and how to get rid of it

This has been growing in our flower bed for many years. It was given to my spouse by a family member. It grows upright and gets quite tall. It flowers in late summer. Has sunshine all day. We have tried everything to kill it. Please help we really want to get rid of it.

What color are the flowers? Do they have a scent to them?

It looks similar to something in the Locust family, HOWEVER, there are a few weed impersonators out there, too.

Yes, something in the pea family, maybe an Amorpha - those can be weedy.

I think its Crown Vetch, w/ pink flower... Not easy to get rid of them.

The little flowers that grow on this are white and I have never smelled them to know if there is a scent
