Preparing for society orchid sale

Quite the adventure. My buddy volunteered to transport, set up, and sell my 17 orchids and her 5 for our society's annual sale to the public. What a champ! I was sick as a dog plus had a "must attend" wedding the next day, so she ended up doing much more than I would have wished on anyone.

Several times, I was ready to ditch the whole project and go to bed, but I hadn't been able to attend the sale last year, and the thought of living with those plants - almost 20 - for another year was most motivating.

Here's the nice surprise. The day before the sale, I was looking up culture requirements for the types of orchid so we could give each buyer a sheet with their purchase. As I re-read cultural preferences, there were several "Ah-has!" Turns out some of the plants I was selling hadn't flourished because their blonde owner didn't have the exact conditions they needed - I'd known at one time and had forgotten.

The funny part was that I took a couple of plants off the sell list because I'd always liked them and now had the missing info that might make them bloom.

You never know how things will turn out....

Oh, yes - 17 plants sent to the sale, 13 sold @ $386 profit, after 15% was taken for the society. Sounds kinda nice, until I think about how much more I probably paid for the plants initially and the extra supplies and goodies I bought for my buddy from guilt and appreciation. But.... I had the enjoyment of the plants all that time and am blessed with this treasured friend - priceless, so it all works out.
