Heritage Plant Auction, AOS Members' Mtg

The link below will lead to the catalog of items that were available at the BIG auction last Friday evening.

It's quite an impressive listing. Does anyone know where to find a tally of final sales prices for ALL of the plants? Or, any prices....?

If yes, please post! :-)

That was so interesing to read, I saved a copy of it. There's a lot of neat historical info in there. I'd also like to know what those plants went for. Probably some pretty big money.

I'm wondering too how much these went for--It was very interesting reading!

Never, ever go to orchid auctions! Thanks for posting, i enjoyed looking at the catalogue. I do have some of the orchids on the list but i suppose they are all lowly mericlones. Sniff.

arthurm, I will be going to an auction again next month. At the same auction last yr, I purchased two Lycaste species that apparently came from an older collection. The original vendors are well known, nationally and regionally.

I promptly divided both when it was time. I now have both of the "parent" plants plus a backbulb division of each. I lost a backbulb division of each also. Big deal! My cost? $30.

I attended the auction and donated some rare divisions. NO they were not lowly mericlones but rare original division donated by highly respectable growers like myself. Unfortunately, I didn't write down what each plant went for, but some plants were sold for a fair price while others (of course the most rare) went for high prices. Some plants were bought a real steal. The main thing is that it (the auction) benefitted the AOS directly and to add to the AOS heritage collection fund. I did manage to buy some very rare plants myself and was quite happy. It was as wonderful event. A weekend of meeting some of the greatest orchid growers and AOS members ever. And to spend time at the DuPont Hotel and Longwood Gardens was as treat and an honor.

That comment was sort of tongue in cheek. Cannot imagine how much those divisions of original plants would bring, especially so, seeing that most of the bidders would not be short of a dollar.

Yes, that is one of the great features of the orchid hobby where good growing brings rewards in the sales of divisions etc. Almost pays for the hobby. The keyword there is almost.

I tried to access this list of prestigious plants to copy last night -- The AOS has removed the contents!!

If anyone had more sense than me and copied it immediately, I will appreciate an emailed copy.

    Thanks,
