Louise or Roberts Clements?

I am have been enabled to really be interested in Louise Clements. I will be shovel pruning my 3 Heritage Roses (outta here, they blow so fast in our Hot and Humid NJ summers) However, Robert Clements has a much nicer orange color. Which one should I choose? Will these Clements roses be a better choice for hot weather?

Thanks!

P.S. I will be planting them in a group of 3, in the recommended David Austin grouping.

    hi :)

I havent grown R. Clements but have (and do) grow Louise. I like her color, here it is like orange sherbet. It is a pretty bloom, but a pretty unimpressive plant-- dont know how else to say it. It takes a long time to establish and grow well IMO, over 3 years. I wouldnt take out the one I have had for 5+ years, but I planted a new one and it languished so badly I shovel pruned it, it made me that unhappy.

So, yes, I would grow one, but probably not give it primo real estate and would not pay the money to grow it in a group of 3's.

Your climate might like it a lot better than mine. Who knows? But that is my experience with this rose.

    Happy New Year :)

I have Louise and I like her but she does not grow like I would like or expect. She stays small and the blooms are not as orange as I prefer. Have you checked out Orange Waves? I also wonder about Robert Clements. I pulled up one out of the orange bed last year for poor performance so I'm looking for more orange too.

I have Robert Clements. It was given to me as a gift. I would never purchase it myself. It's an unattractive shrub, so far, and the blooms are too garish for my taste. I have it next to Morning Has Broken which is a much more attractive shrub. RC black spots pretty bad here.

My experience with Louise has been pretty much like Marleah's. She was given prime real estate here and in 3-4 years, she finally established. The blooms in the cooler weather are pretty..but a little heat here and she's washed out to pink. I wouldn't reorder if this one passed.

If you are looking for an orange, maybe take a look at Pat Austin. I love this one.

Or if it can be a blend, take a peek at Lady of the Mist.
It smells devine and really looks like it's picture on Heirloom's site. A gorgeous bush.

If it doesnt have to be orange, another one I would look at is Star of the Nile. It has a fragrance and color like no other rose I have ever seen.

I agree with you however on getting rid of Heritage. It is such a dud here. Only reason it stays is it is very established and I am too lazy to
    1) dig it out

    2) all of the other bushes in this row are of the same size and I dont want to start over with a small bush and wait for 3 years for it to catch up with the rest.

I have very good bush of Louise Clements. It is at least 6x5 feet and is always covered in blooms. Also has very attractive bushy shape. I don,t know what makes a difference but my LC is oneof my top favorites. Color is also vey nice, definitely orangy, but not harsh at all. kind of soft orange, no other rose I know has this shade of blooms. A real winner for me.

Robert Clements looked good on the Heirloom website, but then they all do.

Olga, where did you get yours?

Lady Emma Hamilton is supposed to be orange. There are pics of her on rose gallery.
I think perhaps my Louise Clements is not in a prime spot but she is sending out new canes and doing well.
Maybe she will improve when I install the drip system.
