Name That Plant!

Is this berry bush/tree nightshade?

I was told this may be nightshade, but would like to be sure. Can anyone help me to identify this bush (or tree), please. We just purchased this new home and need to know before I feel comfortable letting the grandbabies play in back yard where these are. We have several of these. If it isn't, are these berries edible? Thanks

Looks like Highbush cranberry Viburnum trilobum to me.

Edible? Yes, though usually in things like jams, if I recall rightly.

As far as grandbabies and edible or not, take the opportunity to teach them plant safety. You can't protect them from every toxic plant. Teach them how to be safe around plants and to not taste (unlike too many adult posters to the forum!!) what they do not know. You can't be with them always but hopefully your teaching can.

If it is the European Highbush Cranberry, Viburnum opulus, the fruit is likely unpalatable (to put it mildly).
