Knockout rose blooms 1/1/2010 in 30 degree temps

Can you believe a knockout rose blooming in 30 degree temperatures on New Year's Day, 2010???? Beautiful bloom. It if survives the 20 degree nigh tonight, I will try to take and post a pic tomorrow. Forecast for the week in Zip code 30453 is high teens to low/mid 20s, depending on which forecasting service you look at. Point being, VERY cold for us down this far south.

Yes, but rose blooms can be very hardy. In my area it's not uncommon to have roses blooming at Christmas if the temps stay in the 30s during the day.
    Enjoy!

Wow, that variety just won't quit, will it? I hope you will be able to share a photo.

The knockouts sometimes get a bad rap on these forums, but they are workhorses! Mine are evergreen (which I love at this time of year), when all the rest of my roses have BS (I don't spray), the knockouts are clean, and they are the last to keep blooming. No wonder they are so popular.

Hope you get to post a picture. I'm in zone 8, but there are no roses blooming for me!

Mine are still blooming along with two of my miniatures and many of my HT's. We were down to under 25 last night and the Electron blooms were frozen solid (could not be moved with the fingers) this morning, but they are still looking nice this afternoon.....I do see a lot of discoloration in the leaves and some of the blooms are looking a bit worse for the cold, but overall can't believe it!

Tonight and tomorrow are supposed to be under 17 here......I doubt they will survive THAT~

OK, I was able to get a couple of pics Sunday before we left the country.

    Here is one: {{gwi:223557}}From 2010-01-04

Here is another though a bit blurry: {{gwi:223559}}From 2010-01-04

    It is amazing to me.

particentral, we have some which look like that in the beds on both sides of our garage.

This week promises low 20s each night. I don't expect to find any rose blooms when we get back to the farm this coming weekend

    BUT

WOW WHAT A RUN OF BLOOMS WE HAVE HAD WITH THEIR FIRST SEASON!!!

Not a big deal really. All the visible roses in town here, at the parks, in front of the court house, at the bank are all Knockouts and all blooming profusely. The temps the last several days have been in the teens at night and only in the thirties during the day. To have this sort of wintry blast here in southeast Georgia is very unusual, but evidently Mother Nature hasn't told the Knockouts yet. Any day now, I expect my Oldblush to burst into bloom, as it does every year at about this time.

It may no tbe unusual, but it is interesting that they are still producing blooms when everything else has given up on it. At least to me it is. My clients cannot believe that there are still (well, WERE) Hybrid teas putting on buds. I did move my miniatures and one baby rose a client gave me to either under the eaves, against the shop or inside. I couldn;t QUITE make myself leave the newest roses out in that cold.....
