Congratulations! I don't have many frogs - lots of toads, but not many frogs. They give sort of a "country feel" to having a pond in the city.

Toads? I still have no idea how to tell the difference. I always figure that the ones that jump into the water and hide when I walk by are frogs and the ones that I see away from the pond are toads.

I purchased 2 bullfrog tadpoles this spring and now I see at least frogs that hang out in my pond plants. Don't know if they're the same ones or not but I love having frogs in my pond.

Well, mine are frogs because if you get near them they squeek and jump into the pond. I have at least two. I remember seeing two small ones but the other day I saw two sitting there and one was much, much bigger than the other. About twice the size.

Congrats on the frogs. I have a 1000 gallon pond set up really just for frogs. If you want them to overwinter well they require about the same environment as your fish do and will hide at the bottom of your pond so be sure it's deep enough or take the necessary steps so it does not to freeze to the bottom. Sorry about talking about winter so early! Enjoy your frogs the more you acclimate them to you the tamer they will become. Or maybe they just get big and fearless! I have one that lets me get close enough to feed him night crawlers.

i just discovered frogs in my new pond about a week ago! they're really cute. it's fun to try and sneak up on them, but they always jump in. i had at least three, and now i only see one, so the neighborhood cats might have found them. and tonight i saw a HUGE toad sitting in the water. its nice to see that we've been able to attract new wildlife into the yard. as long as i don't see any snakes, i'll be fine.

I looked at both websites given for the frog ids but I can't get close enough to the frogs to get a good look at them. They jump in the water as soon as I get near and looking at them from further away as not to scare them, I can't see them well enough to make out any differences. So, all I can say is that there are frogs.

Better than I have ever done before, at least I have frogs this year.

If you want to get a closer look use a flashlight at night shining in their eyes. You will still have to tread lightly since they can sence the vibrations of youy foot steps but at least they will not be able to see you.

I only get frogs in august. Every year around the same time Ill get about 3. They dont stick around long but I can always count on them.

Rexanne, that is a cute picture. Is that your frog or is that frog from a park? I would love one of them in my back yard. I'd probably sit on it myself..The child modeling on that frog is a handsome fella.

If that frog jumped into our pond he's displace most of the water. :^) As much as I'd like to have him, we discovered him at the zoo, and he was just too big and slippery to take home! ha ha

I just removed a frog from our house yesterday. Second time this year.

I am pretty sure the smaller one is a Leopard Frog, don't know about the larger one.

The small frog moved into a shallow plastic bin for the last three days were I had dug up a big clump of daylilies I wanted to divide. As I was busy and had no time to do it, I just clunked them in that bin with water.

It couldn't stay there, I have to dump it ever few days so I caught it and actually put it in the stocktank. Thats why I got a good look.

All these years here and I never had a frog but I had above ground for ponds. I have come to the conclusion that at least around here the frogs don't like above ground.

Now I have that one small pond in my backyard 3 feet by 12 inches deep and in ground and I have decided that the stocktank will also go ingound going to start digging hole hopefully this week. So hopefully I will have frogs each year from now on.
