Grampa's Orchard sells rootstock's and so do several other on-line vender's I have visited in the last month.

Grampa's doesn't have a citrus rootstock. I like the Home Depot idea. I'll try that.

I hope Home Depot is not your only nursery. Most areas will have at least ONE real retail nursery. A good independent retail nursery will usually be happy to order what you need and will have an interest in your success in your garden. Al

Yes, I'm sure any nursery would be happy to order any citrus tree, but I have never seen them offer baby trees, and it would probably charge 50 to 75 dollars for a one gallon one. And if you are just going to use it to cut off the top and re-graft it, that's a pretty expensive way to learn to graft. Obviously in a perfect world I would ALWAYS "shop local", but having to choose between paying 10 dollars for a baby citrus at HD, and paying 75 dollars to shop local for a single tree, most of us would never learn to graft!

As for Grampa's--do they even ship to California? Most nurseries in other States don't because of the restrictions, except for Oregon and Washington. It would be nice if they did, because I think I saw M-111 on there for apples, and that's one of the best for California soil issues.

sautesmom I read through the shipping page on Grampa's site. He is not specific about what states he will or will not ship too. My bet is that if you placed an order for rootstocks he would ship them.

I'm thinking of ordering some plum, pear and peach rootstocks and trying some grafting myself.

There are many issues with shipping citrus to CA from other states due to concerns with diseases. Cummins told me that there would be an additional cost of $30 for certification (or something like that) plus another $30 for shipping. HD is just a cheap, quick and easy way to learn.

Grandpa's shipped an apple tree to me (and it was good stuff). Citrus would be tough because there are so many quarantines to keep track of.
