Do pine shavings have turpentine in them?

January 22, 2009

Hello all!

Just this week I found an equestrian center that will let me take as much used horse bedding as I want and they'll even load it for me. I was telling my grandfather, who is a gardener as well, and he told me to find out if they were using pine shavings. He said, "Pine shavings have turpentine in them and if you use them, your plants will die!" So I called the equestrian center and they said they were pine shavings.

Is he right? Should I go check their packaging? What do you think I should do?
