I used to use Osmocote and was happy with it. JP's new fertilizer seems similar except it comes with micronutrients (the Osmocote available in the Home Depot-type stores doesn't) and the JP product is supposed to have a superior coating which gives more accurate time-release of the nutrients. I'd probably try the JP stuff except 1) I've already decided to try nothing but alfalfa pellets this coming year and 2) The JP product seems to be about twice as expensive as the Home Depot Osmocote - maybe the price will come down if the big box stores start to carry it.
