I guess this is why you shouldn't buy bodybags!

I bought some bodybags early this year from Home Depot (before I joined this forum). They were super cheap but the canes looked healthy and I really wanted Olympiad, Peace, etc.

My olympiad bush has put out some blooms. What do you think?? Not quite what i expected!!

live and learn,

    What the.....

Sure doesnt look like my Olympiad

Did they put the wrong label on the rose?

And, whats the term "bodybag" mean?

And, whats the term "bodybag" mean?

Those are the bareroot roses in those plastic tubes that you see sold at big box stores--the bags are roughly the size of a rather slim loaf of bread, with the bare rose canes sticking out the top of the bag.

Well at least it bloomed and it's pretty, gebebeh!

That's the thing about the body bags, you don't always get what you buy. My friend bought one labeled Climbing Gene Boerner. She couldn't help herself. As far as we know, there is no climbing version of Gene Boerner. Can't wait till it blooms. But that is a pretty rose, whoever she is.

Yes it's pretty. But I already planted a Pascali and a PJP 2 so i guess I'll have alot of white bushes this year.
The peace I bought in a bodybag also bloomed and it's flowers look lavender? WTH??
So no Peace or Olympiad for me this year. Oh well at least they did live!

Hey, at least your rose didn't die and is actually blooming!

I have 4 of them this year. 2have buds and 2 are blooming. Miss AA Beauty and cherish are good. Still waiting for chrysler imperial and heirloom. I should know by the end of the week.

Which one is that rose? JFK maybe...lots of body bags for that one.

Sunni - if it ends up being JFK I'll have to laugh.
A couple of years bought a expensive container JFK from J&P. It cost over $20. Never got any blooms off it, and now the JFK graft died and it is just a dr. Huey.

So I buy a $3 bodybag and it ends up a blooming JFK?

    THe world of rose buying!

The old maxim stands: You get what you pay for.

I've fallen for body bags myself. If the variety is obviously not what the label said that it was (which happens about 50% of the time), then I just refer to that body bag as a 'zombie' rose. Generally, my zombies don't stay around for more than a season or two.

I hope your ghostly white zombie proves to be a keeper . . .

That is really a shame but you can get mis-labeled roses from anywhere, even mail order roses. I have a JFK body bag rose from about 4 years ago growing in a somewhat small pot, I am constantly moving this rose from one part of the yard to the other but this year I want to find a permanent spot for it.

yes you take a chance but over all the ones I have purchased have produced beautiful results over the years , yes lost some but they were refunded by the store .

Here's the root sysyem on a body bag rose I bought a few years ago. This and mislabeled roses are typical of those from those body bags packaged by Certified rose growers in Tyler, Texas

yeah I'm definitely not falling for body bag roses next year. I spent too many weeks so excited to see my first "peace" bloom. And now I get little lavender buds?
Even if it ends up being a beautiful bush I'll always be disappointed that it isn't "peace".

At least with the container roses I bought, I could see what I was getting. And of course the expensive bare root roses I bought are what I paid for.

yep I have learned my lesson!

I will buy body bags, but they have to be a variety that would be about impossible to get otherwise, and I always buy at least two just to make sure I get one that is not mis-labeled. Then the only thing to watch out for is RMV.

Here is the peace bloom from my other body bag plant.

Any guesses to what this one is? I don't think it is peace!

I hate that nickname "bodybags". I buy a lot of the "bagged bareroots" if it's a rose that's easy to find that I don't want to pay a lot for, or a really hard to find one, like Mike said. Over the yrs I'd say I've had probably better than 75% correct roses. Still, it's disappointing when you don't get the correct rose. Especially if it is a hard to find one. I've had a hard time trying to get a CHICAGO PEACE. Everytime I buy one, it's something else. The last one I got ended up being white also, and I've pretty much ID'd it as PASCALI. I've kept it for a few yrs, but it could easily end up being SP'd for something new!

Gbebeh, your lavender looks like it will probably end up being PARADISE. Especially if it gets more of that ruby edge as it ages.

Beth, do you think it could also be Moonlight Magic? It's also lavendar. I bought several of these this year hoping I would get at least one that was correct. Gbebeh, if this is Moonlight Magic, you received a great rose; it's hard to find.

Beth would know better, but I do not think this is Moonlight Magic. Seems to have too good of form, and too dark. Sure looks like Paradise to me.

Beth - Hey, I'd be more than happy to root you up a Chicago Peace. I was also getting frustrated in getting this, and ended up ordering from Amity quite a few years ago.

Lastly Beth - how is Old Castle doing? Mine actually made it through the winter with flying colors.

I just checked what I thought was Golden Showers climber and the buds are RED...and I already planted it on a trellis. Wonder what this might be?
